Adams style furniture and architecture was a classic design staple of the mid 18th century. The Adams brothers published engravings of their neoclassical designs rich with classical elements such as medallions, griffins, urns, vases, drapery swags and bellflowers etc. Archaeological excavations and the re-discovery of ancient Grecian and Roman civilizations were the biggest news of the middle 18th century. The Adams brothers studied their predecessors classical designs and translated them into simpler elegant designs in a world dominated by over the top rococo and baroque styles. Artists across all mediums would tour these uncovered ancient cities trying to recapture the neo-classical beauty they saw.

This rare diminutive arm chair is an absolute jewel. There was a big revival of Adams style furniture in the early 20th century. This is a period piece we have right at the turn of the 18th/19th century. We\'re very big on purity, especially when we start to examine period antiques. This arm chair is free of any damage and was obviously very well cared for throughout it\'s life. This came to use from a non smoking home and the pink velvet seat is free of any defects. With Adams style furniture the painted designs are our absolute favorite elements. This chair is decorated with rare and unique finely painted musical instruments along the upper crest rail. A similar scene can be found on the masterfully done center medallion with various vine and floral paintings encompassing the chair in a pleasing manner. The tapered legs feature graduated bell flowers terminating in spade feet.
